Christopher Nolan’s latest film, The Odyssey, has achieved remarkable success in Ireland, earning the highest opening weekend box-office revenue per capita globally. After its debut last Friday, the epic film garnered €954,000 in the Republic of Ireland and an additional €69,000 in Northern Ireland. On a global scale, the film raked in $264 million during its opening weekend, marking the most successful debut of Nolan’s career.

The Odyssey stars a stellar cast including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, and Zendaya. The movie is a cinematic adaptation of the ancient Greek poem by Homer, chronicling the adventures of Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, on his arduous decade-long journey home following the Trojan War. Surpassing the opening performance of Nolan’s previous hit, Oppenheimer from 2023, The Odyssey stands as his strongest debut since 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises.

Released across 73 international markets, the film premiered in over 12,800 venues and on 26,000 screens worldwide, featuring 440 IMAX screens. Notably, The Odyssey is the first feature film to be shot entirely with IMAX cameras, enhancing its visual storytelling on a grand scale. The film has received widespread acclaim from critics, further solidifying its status as a blockbuster hit.
