Real Madrid clinched a thrilling 3-2 victory over Elche on Tuesday, propelled by a last-minute goal from substitute Carlos Espi. The win puts Madrid level with Barcelona at the top of La Liga.
Madrid initially appeared to dominate the match with a two-goal lead. Arda Guler opened the scoring when his free-kick rebounded off the post and then off Elche’s goalkeeper, Matias Dituro, before crossing the line. Kylian Mbappe extended the lead, finishing a cross from Yan Diomande just eight minutes later.
Despite the uphill battle, Elche mounted a spirited comeback in the second half. Abiel Osorio’s header, assisted by Lucas Cepeda, narrowed the gap, and Nino’s 83rd-minute goal brought the score level, setting the stage for a tense conclusion.
In response, Real Madrid’s manager Jose Mourinho introduced Carlos Espi and Endrick as the team pressed for a decisive goal. The strategy paid off in stoppage time when Mbappe connected with Espi, who found the net from the back post, securing the dramatic win for Madrid.
This victory marks Madrid’s fifth win in six league matches, positioning them alongside defending champions Barcelona, who are set to face Racing Santander on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Valencia secured their first win of the season with a 1-0 result against Alaves, and Rayo Vallecano triumphed over Espanyol, 2-1.
