Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed that Ukraine did not receive an early warning from international partners prior to a Russian ballistic missile attack on Kyiv, which targeted civilian infrastructure. According to Zelenskyy, five missiles struck civilian areas during Monday’s assault, emphasizing the importance of timely intelligence sharing to protect lives.
Zelenskyy underscored the need for early warnings regarding ballistic missile launches, which allow civilians and emergency services to prepare for incoming threats. Despite the lack of warning in this instance, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha noted that intelligence cooperation with international partners is ongoing. He suggested that the absence of a warning could be linked to the specific type of weapon used by Russia.
This incident comes amid concerns about US intelligence support for Ukraine. Reports have surfaced that American officials cautioned Ukrainian counterparts about the Trump administration’s potential suspension of intelligence sharing. However, Ukrainian officials continue to stress the importance of cooperation, particularly for detecting ballistic missile launches and monitoring long-range bomber activity.
Additionally, tensions have escalated over attacks on energy infrastructure. US President Donald Trump urged Ukraine to cease striking Russian oil refineries and announced an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin concerning diesel supplies. Trump also claimed an energy ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, though Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine had not received confirmation of such an agreement.
Zelenskyy has accused Russia of persisting in its attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities despite the purported ceasefire. While Ukraine temporarily refrained from targeting Russian energy infrastructure following the US announcement, Zelenskyy stressed that any halt in hostilities must be mutual and backed by credible assurances.
Russian strikes continue to inflict civilian casualties and destruction across Ukraine. In a separate attack on Kharkiv, Zelenskyy reported that four people were killed and 41 injured after a residential building was destroyed. As Russian attacks on cities and energy infrastructure intensify with the approach of winter, Ukraine has appealed to its partners for more air-defense support, including Patriot missile systems.
