Storm Recovery Continues in Ireland Amid New Weather Alerts and Power Outages

Published on

Ireland has issued Status Yellow weather warnings for 11 counties as efforts to recover from Storm Boelo continue. The storm has caused significant disruption, leaving approximately 5,000 homes and businesses, mainly in the northwest, without electricity. This number has decreased from 41,000 earlier, according to ESB Networks, and repair crews are working to restore power, although some outages may persist overnight.

The affected counties under the new wind warning include Carlow, Clare, Cork, Donegal, Galway, Kerry, Kilkenny, Mayo, Waterford, Wexford, and Wicklow. The warning is effective from 5 p.m. on Monday until 11:59 p.m., with the potential for difficult travel conditions and fallen trees. Additionally, rain warnings have been issued for areas such as Cork, Kerry, Galway, and Mayo, where heavy rainfall could lead to localized flooding due to already saturated ground and elevated river levels.

Dublin Airport has also faced disruptions, with 30 flights canceled due to strong winds in Ireland and adverse weather at other locations. Authorities have cautioned that further delays and cancellations may occur.

Emergency management officials are focusing recovery operations in the northwest, where Donegal has reported numerous fallen trees, road debris, and damaged electricity lines. While Leitrim experienced fallen trees, it has reportedly avoided major damage. Meteorologists have indicated that the incoming weather system does not currently meet the criteria for a named storm, but additional rain and strong winds could exacerbate conditions in areas already hit by recent storms.

Authorities urge the public to exercise caution while traveling and to avoid fallen or damaged electricity wires, advising any hazards to be reported to ESB Networks.
