Published on

On Monday, Ireland celebrated the inauguration of its first direct air link to Shanghai, China’s largest city, with the launch of a new non-stop route from Dublin Airport. This significant development is facilitated by China Eastern Airlines, which will operate the service three times a week using Airbus A350-900 aircraft. Notably, this new route holds the distinction of being Dublin Airport’s longest-ever scheduled non-stop flight.

The introduction of this route is seen as a strategic enhancement of Ireland’s connectivity with a crucial global aviation market. The airport operator, daa, expressed that this connection is poised to foster increased travel, tourism, trade, and educational exchanges between Ireland and China. Given the importance of China as a global economic player, the new route is expected to significantly bolster bilateral relations and provide a direct and efficient travel option for passengers between the two nations.

China Eastern Airlines, headquartered in Shanghai and a member of the SkyTeam alliance, covers an extensive network across Europe, Asia, Oceania, North America, South America, and the Middle East. The airline’s chairman, Wang Zhiqing, highlighted that this service establishes a vital air corridor that will enhance cooperation and strengthen ties between the people of Ireland and China.

Dublin Airport officials have welcomed the launch as a major expansion of their long-haul network. They anticipate that the new route will open up fresh opportunities for travelers and businesses alike, facilitating smoother transit for passengers and fostering deeper connections in various sectors. This new service marks a significant milestone in Ireland’s aviation landscape, underscoring the country’s growing global connectivity and commitment to building robust international partnerships.
